Adolescents' Future Imaginations of The Conflict Between Israel and Palestine
Keywords:
Future Imagination, Adolescents, Israel-Palestine Conflict, HatredAbstract
This study examines how and to what extent adolescents develop their future imagination of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Using ethnographic methods, the researchers worked closely with three teenagers in Bojonegoro who had a direct attachment to the conflict. The imagination of the future is self-expressed and complemented by input from their parents, teachers, and organizations. The results of this study show that adolescents imagine participating in future wars to defend Palestine. The element of hatred becomes significant in shaping children's future imagination. Their hatred is based on the fact that they feel the oppression, marginalization, and cruelty of Israel towards their Muslim brothers in Palestine. This hatred is reinforced by the role of parents, teachers, and organizations that transmit to the youth a value that the conflict is religious, by positioning Palestine as a positive Muslim brother and Israel as a negative enemy for non-Muslims
